What It Means

A refuge is a safe place. A habitation is a place where someone lives. These verses do not simply say that God is a safe place; they say, “thou hast made the LORD...thy habitation.” God wants us to come to Him, trust Him, and live every day close to Him. How can we come to God? Through Jesus Christ. Jesus came to save us from our sins and bring us to God. When we trust in Jesus, we belong to Him. We can talk to Him, obey His Word, give Him our worries, and trust Him with every part of our lives. Psalm 91 does not mean that God's children will never experience sickness, sadness, trouble, or difficult days. Jesus told His followers that there would be trouble in this world. But God is our refuge. He is with His children, He cares for us, and nothing takes Him by surprise. We can trust His wisdom and loving purposes even when we do not understand what is happening. We do not come to Jesus simply to have an easy life; we come because we need a Saviour. Jesus Himself is our greatest gift.

Think About It

When you are scared, worried, sick, sad, or having a hard day, where do you run? You can run to Jesus. Tell Him what you are feeling, ask Him for help, remember His Word, and trust Him. Make the Lord your safe place every day.

Activity

"Make a little refuge with a blanket and two chairs. Sit inside together and say: “A refuge is a safe place. The Lord is my refuge. I can trust Jesus.” Then practice Psalm 91:9–10 together."

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for being our safe place. Thank You for loving us and bringing us near to God. Help me trust You when I am happy, scared, sick, sad, or worried. I give every part of my life to You. Help me live close to You, follow Your Word, and remember that You are with me even on difficult days. Amen.
