"Psalm 118:28 invites us to make praise personal: “Thou art my God.” As we remember His faithful help and our salvation through Jesus Christ, we can respond with thanksgiving, trust, and a life that honours Him."

“Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.”
— Psalm 118:28 (KJV)
Yesterday, Psalm 116 reminded me that the Almighty God inclines His ear to hear my prayers. Today, Psalm 118 brings me to this simple, personal confession: “Thou art my God.”
He is the God who made heaven and earth, yet by His grace I can call Him my God. He knows me, hears me, and cares for me. What a reason to praise Him!
This psalm speaks of distress, opposition, and help from the Lord. The writer’s thanksgiving comes from remembering God’s faithfulness through trouble.
“The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.”
— Psalm 118:14 (KJV)
As I think about my own life, I can see how much I depend on Him. He gives me strength for responsibilities, grace when I fail, and hope when I feel overwhelmed. Even when a difficulty remains, His mercy gives me reason to keep trusting Him.
The words “I will praise thee” also challenge me. Do I make time to thank Him, or do I move quickly from one request to the next? Yesterday, I was reminded to pray more. Today, I am reminded to let praise be part of that prayer—to acknowledge who He is and remember what He has done.
Psalm 118 also speaks of the stone rejected by the builders becoming the cornerstone. The New Testament applies this to Jesus Christ. Through the One who was rejected, crucified, and raised again, we receive salvation. Our deepest reason for thanksgiving is found in Him.
Today, I want to make verse 28 my own confession: You are my God. I will praise You. I will exalt You. May my words, choices, and daily life honour the One whose mercy endures forever.
Reflection
Do I make time to thank God, or do I move quickly from one request to the next? How can my words and choices honour Him today?
Prayer
Dear Lord, You are my God, and I will praise You. Thank You for hearing me, strengthening me, and showing me mercy. Forgive me for rushing past Your goodness without giving thanks. Thank You for salvation through Jesus Christ. Help me exalt You in my words and in the way I live today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
