Psalm 119:9–16 teaches us to guard our way through God’s Word. As we treasure His truth in our hearts and depend on His strength, He helps us resist sin and grow in purity.

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
— Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
Yesterday’s portion led me to pray for a life of integrity. Today’s passage asks a practical question: How can a young person keep their way pure? The answer directs us again to God’s Word—by paying attention to it and living according to it.
This is a question for every age. How do we keep our thoughts, desires, words, and choices pleasing to God when so much around us pulls us in another direction?
The psalmist says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” God’s Word is meant to become something we treasure within us. It needs to reach beyond the page and shape the way we think and live.
Reading and memorising Scripture do not make us incapable of sinning. But as we receive His Word, meditate on it, and obey it with the Holy Spirit’s help, it exposes what is wrong and guides us toward what pleases God.
I need this personally. Am I giving His Word enough room in my day? Am I carrying something from my reading into my conversations, decisions, and moments of temptation?
The psalmist seeks God wholeheartedly, asks Him for teaching, speaks of His judgments, and delights in His ways. This is a living relationship with God through His Word.
Today, I want to slow down enough to remember what I read and put it into practice. Lord, let Your truth take root in my heart, so that my life reflects it.
Reflection
What truth from God’s Word can I carry into today? How can I put it into practice when temptation comes?
Prayer
Lord, give me a hunger for Your Word. Help me treasure it, remember it, and obey it. Keep my heart from wandering, and strengthen me by Your Spirit when temptation comes. Let Your truth shape my thoughts, words, and actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
