Lord, Help Me Live the Life You Have Called Me to Live

October 16, 2026Psalm 108:13By Paul

Remembering God’s goodness moves me to thank Him, testify of His works, and obey His commands. Psalm 108 reminds me that I need His help to live this out. As I face temptation and spiritual battles, I can seek His strength and trust Him to help me live the life He has called me to live.

Over these past few days, my daily readings have reminded me of God’s goodness, greatness, and mercy. Psalm 103 called me to remember His benefits. Psalm 104 showed His care for creation. Psalm 105 reminded me that He did these things so His people would keep His commands. Then Psalm 106 showed how quickly they forgot and turned away.

Yesterday, I reflected on telling others what God has done. Today, Psalm 108 brings me to another question: How will I live in obedience to the God I am praising?

I need His help.

Last night, I listened to a sermon by David Gibbs that encouraged me to depend on God’s strength. As I read today’s portion, that thought stayed with me. God has called me to walk with Him, and I need to seek His help in doing so.

Psalm 108 begins with a heart ready to praise. David gives thanks among the nations and celebrates God’s love and faithfulness. Yet this same psalm contains an urgent cry for help. In verse 6, he asks God to rescue His beloved people. In verses 11–12, he speaks of rejection and God’s absence from their armies, then pleads for help against their enemies. He knows human strength cannot secure the victory.

The psalm ends with confidence in what they can do with God’s help.

Israel faced armies and fortified cities. As Christians, we also face spiritual opposition. Ephesians 6:10–12 reminds us that our struggle is against spiritual powers of darkness, rather than people, and calls us to draw our strength from the Lord. We need His power to stand firm.

I need that strength in everyday obedience: to resist temptation, forgive someone who has hurt me, speak truthfully, and remain faithful when doing right is difficult.

Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13, KJV). He had learned to depend on Christ through both plenty and hardship. That encourages me to trust Christ for the strength to be faithful in my circumstances today.

As I remember God’s goodness and speak of His works, I want to begin with this prayer: Lord, help me obey You. Strengthen me to live out what I believe.

Reflection

Where am I relying on my own strength today? What step of obedience do I need to take while depending on God’s help?

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your goodness, faithfulness, and mercy. You know how easily I forget and how weak I can be. Help me seek You first and depend on Your strength throughout the day. Strengthen me to resist temptation, keep Your commands, and tell others what You have done. Through Jesus Christ, help me live the life You have called me to live. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
