Psalm 112 reminds me of the joy of honouring God and delighting in His commands. Trusting Him steadies my heart when bad news comes and shapes a life of generosity, integrity, and lasting influence. Through faith in Jesus and the strength of His Holy Spirit, I can grow in obedience and point the next generation toward Him.

Today’s portion, Psalm 112, encouraged me deeply. It describes a life shaped by reverence for God: a steady heart, generosity toward others, integrity in daily dealings, and a blessing that reaches the next generation.
It begins with someone who fears the Lord and finds joy in obeying Him. To fear God is to honour Him, take His Word seriously, and allow Him to direct our choices.
One part especially stayed with me: the righteous can face troubling news with confidence because their trust rests in God. This psalm acknowledges darkness and opposition. Yet even there, God gives His people light and steadiness.
I want that kind of heart. When something unexpected happens, I want to turn to the Lord and remember that He is still faithful.
The psalm also describes people who give freely, help those in need, and conduct their affairs fairly. Their faith becomes visible in how they treat others. Their lives leave a lasting memory, and their children share in the blessing of a godly heritage. Even when the wicked become angry, their evil hopes will ultimately fail.
What an encouragement to keep walking with God! This is no formula for a trouble-free or wealthy life. It is a picture of the lasting fruit of trusting Him. I can entrust my family, my future, and the results of my obedience to His care.
But as I read, I also have to ask: How do I become righteous before God?
I begin by turning to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith, trusting the One who died for my sins and rose again. My acceptance before God rests on His grace. From that relationship, a life of obedience grows. We are saved through faith and created in Christ to do good works (Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8–10).
And can I live this life in my own strength?
I need God’s help every day. In my earlier devotion on Psalm 108, I reflected on depending on His strength. That same dependence belongs here. God gives His Holy Spirit to strengthen us within and help us walk in His ways (Ephesians 3:16; Galatians 5:16).
For me, this means making time to read His Word, think about what He is saying, pray honestly, and put His teaching into practice. I need this more consistently. I need to carry His Word into my conversations, decisions, and responses throughout the day.
When I become anxious, I can bring that fear to Him. When I see someone in need, I can respond generously. When obedience is difficult, I can ask for strength and take the next faithful step.
Reflection
What would delighting in God’s commands look like in my life today? Where do I need His strength to respond with trust, generosity, or obedience?
Prayer
Father, thank You for the joy of knowing You. Thank You for making me right with You through Jesus Christ. By Your Holy Spirit, strengthen me to honour You and obey Your Word. Steady my heart when troubling news comes. Make me generous, compassionate, and honest. Help me spend time with You each day, and let the life I live point my children and others toward You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
