I Am His—and His Mercy Has Kept Me

October 8, 2026Psalm 100:3By Paul

Psalm 100 calls us to acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, we belong to Him, and we are the sheep of His pasture. When I look at my own life, I can testify that His unfailing love has kept me. His goodness gives me reason to come before Him with thanksgiving and praise.

Today, while reading Psalm 100, these words stood out to me:

Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, and we are His.

Sometimes we live as though everything depends on us. Our strength. Our plans. Our ability to hold everything together. But this verse brings me back to the truth. I did not make myself. I did not give myself life. Every breath I take is a gift from God. He is God, and I am His creation. That should humble me. It should also give me comfort. I belong to Him.

The Sheep of His Pasture

The psalm says that we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. A sheep needs its shepherd. It needs guidance, provision, and protection. It cannot always recognize danger or find its own way back when it wanders. When I think about that, I see myself. There have been times when I did not know what to do. Times when I was weak. Times when I went my own way and needed to be brought back. Yet the Lord has continued to care for me. I can witness that in my life right now. I am still here because of His mercy. He has sustained me through things I could not have carried by myself.

His Mercy Has Kept Me

Lamentations says:

“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22–23 KJV

This is my testimony.

It is because of His unfailing love that I am not consumed. I cannot take the credit for everything God has brought me through. I know my weaknesses. I know the times I have failed. I know how much I need Him.

But His compassion has not failed. His mercy met me yesterday, and I need it again today. Tomorrow, I will still depend on Him. That does not mean life has been without sorrow or difficulty. It means that through those things, He has continued to sustain me. When I look back, I see reasons to thank Him. When I look at my life today, I see reasons to trust Him.

Come With Thanksgiving

Psalm 100 tells us:

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
Psalm 100:4 KJV

When I come before God, I often bring my needs. There is always something I want Him to help me with. But do I also bring my thanksgiving? Do I remember what He has already done? Do I acknowledge the mercy that has brought me this far? Before I ask for the next thing, I want to thank Him. Thank You, Lord, for giving me life. Thank You for caring for me. Thank You for forgiving me, guiding me, and sustaining me. I want my praise to come from remembering who He is and what He has done.

His Goodness Continues

The psalm ends with these words:

“For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”
Psalm 100:5 KJV

The Lord is good. His goodness does not depend on whether today has gone the way I hoped. His mercy does not end with one season of my life. His faithfulness reaches from generation to generation. The God I depend on today is the God I want my children to know. I want them to hear how He has helped me. I want them to learn to recognize His goodness in their own lives. May my thanksgiving become a testimony that points them to Him.

Jesus, Our Good Shepherd

Jesus said:

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”
John 10:11 KJV

At the cross, we see how deeply He loves us. Jesus gave His life for our sins and rose again. Through Him, we can receive forgiveness and be brought into a relationship with God. If you do not yet know Him, come to Jesus. Turn from your sin and put your trust in Him and if you already belong to Him, take a moment today to remember His mercy. What has He brought you through? Where has He sustained you? What can you thank Him for right now? I know what I want to say:

Lord, I am Yours. Your mercy has kept me. You are good, and I will praise Your name.

Reflection

Where can I see God’s mercy in my life today? How can I share His goodness with the next generation?

Prayer

Lord, You are God. You made me, and I belong to You. Thank You for being my Shepherd. Thank You for guiding me, providing for me, and sustaining me through difficult seasons. It is because of Your mercy that I am not consumed. Your compassion has not failed me. Forgive me for the times I have forgotten to thank You. Open my eyes to Your goodness, and fill my heart with praise. Help me to speak of Your faithfulness so that my children and those around me will come to know You. Thank You for Jesus, the Good Shepherd who gave His life for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
