7 Days of Prayer

By Paul

Day 1 — Begin With God

Scripture: Matthew 6:9–10 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Explanation:
Prayer begins with God’s character and kingdom before our list of needs. Worship helps reorder our hearts around who God is.

Reflection: Do my prayers mostly begin with my problems or with God?

Prayer: Father, help me recognize Your holiness and goodness. Let Your priorities become more important to me than my own plans. Amen.

Day 2 — Give Thanks

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Explanation:
Gratitude does not deny difficulty. It trains us to notice God’s faithfulness even while we are still waiting for answers.

Reflection: What are three things I can thank God for today?

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to Your goodness and help gratitude become part of my daily prayer life. Amen.

Day 3 — Bring Your Needs to God

Scripture: Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Explanation:
God invites us to bring specific concerns to Him. Prayer turns worry into conversation with the Father.

Reflection: What concern have I been repeatedly carrying instead of praying about?

Prayer: Father, I place my needs before You and ask for Your wisdom, provision, and peace. Amen.

Day 4 — Confession and Forgiveness

Scripture: 1 John 1:8–9 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Explanation:
Prayer includes honesty about sin. Confession is not hiding from God but coming into the light of His mercy.

Reflection: Is there something I need to confess or someone I need to forgive?

Prayer: Lord, search my heart, forgive what is wrong in me, and help me extend forgiveness to others. Amen.

Day 5 — Pray for Others

Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:1–4 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Explanation:
Prayer expands beyond ourselves. Scripture encourages us to pray for family, friends, leaders, communities, churches, and those who need Christ.

Reflection: Who has God placed on my heart to pray for consistently?

Prayer: Lord, I bring the people around me before You. Work in their lives according to Your wisdom and grace. Amen.

Day 6 — Listen and Surrender

Scripture: Psalm 139:23–24; Luke 22:39–46 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV): 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Luke 22:39–46 (KJV): 39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. 43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

Explanation:
Prayer is not only asking God to support our plans. Sometimes prayer changes us and teaches us to surrender to His will.

Reflection: Is there an area where God may be asking me to surrender?

Prayer: Father, show me what needs to change in me and give me courage to follow Your will. Amen.

Day 7 — Pray With Confidence

Scripture: Hebrews 4:14–16 (KJV)

Full Scripture (KJV):
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Explanation:
Because of Jesus, believers are invited to approach God with confidence. Prayer is grounded in grace, not in our perfection.

Reflection: What would change if I truly believed God welcomed me into His presence?

Prayer: Father, thank You that through Jesus I can come before You freely. Help me develop a life of prayer every day. Amen.
